Literacy Lift Off has been used in the school since the second week in September in Senior Infants right upto third class. The children have really enjoyed the process with them experiencing great success in reading, writing and phonics.
Nearly 2,000 Literacy Lift Off books were purchased by the Parents Association and their help in running the programme has proven to be an invaluable asset to the school.
We are taking a break from Literacy Lift Off and starting a new initiative in school using Team Teaching in Irish for 4th, 5th and 6th class.
For this, the Learning Support teacher will go into the classroom and teach a smaller group of children and the class teacher will teach the other group of children. The children will learn all the skills of Irish from reading, writing, oral langauage, listening and grammar but in a much smaller group therefore allowing the teacher to have more one on one time with the students. The teachers will rotate groups every 25 minutes.
